Roccacalasio Castle, Italy
It is a mountaintop fortress located in the city of Caraccio in the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of Italy, with an elevation of approximately 1460 meters. It is one of the highest fortresses in the Apennine Mountains. This castle was originally built in the 10th century as a single watchtower, and in the 13th century, a walled courtyard with four corner towers was added, surrounding a higher central tower. The construction is primarily for military purposes, with its design and construction aimed at accommodating the army rather than serving as a residence for the nobility. The lower part used larger stones than the upper part, possibly to make the base impregnable to invaders.
